HERE'S WHAT WE NOTICED AT NYFW
Now that New York Fashion Week has come to an end, it’s only right we recap what went down on the runway. Join us as we take a closer look at some of the highlight shows and standout looks from the week.
WILLY CHAVARRIA
2023 Menswear Designer of the Year, Willy Chavarria, presented his Spring/Summer ’25 collection titled ‘América’ with runway appearances by rapper YG, NBA basketball player Jerami Grant, and Olympic Gold Medalist Noah Lyles. Chavarria began his show with a collection of garments crafted in his stylistic, yet traditional approach to workwear. The show closed with looks from his new partnership with Adidas which featured jerseys, tracksuits, and collaborative footwear. Believe the hype; it’s safe to say that Willy Chavarria is here to stay.
OFF-WHITE
Virgil Abloh’s Off-White made its NYFW debut this year, to the surprise of many. Creative director Ib Kamara drew inspiration for the ‘DUTY FREE’ collection from a trip to Ghana, where the late founder is from. Brooklyn Bridge sported the look of a blacked out basketball court for the show which featured outfits representing a fusion of America and Africa. With a plethora of star attendees and a set design to remember, the brand's debut did not disappoint.
WHO DECIDES WAR
Ev Bravado and Tela D’Amore of Who Decides War took a turn away from their usual graphic and denim led style for their tenth collection. This go around was all about widening their approach to design with silhouettes that aren’t traditionally in their arsenal such as blazers for the men, and dresses for the women. The collection, titled ‘X’, also featured their new collaborations with leather jacket designer Pelle Pelle, and Jordan Brand.
TAKEAWAYS
While American heritage names like Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren consistently present great collections, some of the industry’s rising stars are able to take the big stage right around the corner. It’s that juxtaposition that keeps consumers engaged and creates a well-rounded week of shows. With newly announced big name collaborations and the continued ascension of some of the new names in fashion, this week will definitely be one to remember.
